Through the Father's Eyes

THROUGH THE FATHER’S EYES

"When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Matthew 9:36-38 (ESV)

Imagine for a moment what it would be like to borrow God’s glasses. Not the kind you pick up at the corner store, but the ones He wears when He looks down at this spinning blue marble we call home. What would you see? The guy in the coffee shop with the scowl and the loud opinions? The neighbor whose yard looks like a jungle? The friend who stumbles through life with a past heavier than a winter coat? You might be tempted to size them up, to slap a label on them—*grumpy, messy, broken*—and move on. But not the Father. No, He peers through lenses of compassion, and what He sees changes everything.

Take Jesus, for instance. The crowds pressed in—dusty, desperate, a sea of faces with no shepherd to guide them. He didn’t just glance and shrug. Scripture says He *saw* them, and something stirred deep within Him. The

Greek word for compassion here isn’t some soft, fuzzy feeling—it’s a verb, a gut-punch of love that demands action. Jesus didn’t sit on the hillside muttering, “Poor things, wish I could help.” He rolled up His sleeves, stepped into their mess, and brought the Father’s heart with Him.

And here’s the wonder of it: He invites you and me to do the same. The harvest, He says, is bursting at the seams—not with wheat or barley, but with people. People who need a touch, a word, a glimpse of the Father’s love. It’s not about having all the answers or a shiny resume. It’s about seeing what He sees.

So, let’s try something today, you and me. Step out into your world—your street, your of?ce, your grocery aisle—and look around. Really look. Then whisper this prayer: “Father, what are You up to with this person? How can I love them closer to You?” I’ve prayed that prayer, friend, and let me tell you—it’s like someone ?ipped on the lights. Suddenly, the stranger isn’t just a stranger. The co-worker isn’t just a complainer. They’re sheep, maybe a little lost, but oh-so-precious to the Shepherd.

When you move toward them with that prayer in your heart, something shifts. Compassion sneaks in, and before you know it, you’re part of a miracle. A kind word here, a listening ear there, and the Father’s love starts spilling over.

Let Us Pray:

Father, lend me Your eyes today. Help me see past the surface—past the politics, the pasts, the prickly edges—and into the hearts You adore. Give me wisdom to know how to step in, and courage to share the healing You’ve poured into me. Make me a laborer in Your harvest, all for the sake of Your Son, Jesus. Amen!

We would love to pray with you!

Dear Friend,

Ever feel the weight of family pressing down—cracks widening, hope thinning? Picture a man, shoulders slumped, staring up at the hills. He’s you, maybe. Or someone you love. “I lift my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth,” sings Psalm 121:1-2. That’s no faint whisper—it’s a promise carved in stone. We believe every home needs a husband and wife who love and a father and mother who stand, and we’re here to help them rise to that call. But sometimes, the ?rst step is prayer.

Reach out, friend. Let us kneel with you, lift those eyes to the hills together, and call down the help only God can give. Click below to ask for prayer with me, Pastor Ed. We’ll stand in the gap, believing for your breakthrough.

May the Lord’s steady hand hold you tight,

Pastor Ed Tandy McGlasson
