When God Turns the Tide
When God Turns the Tide
"But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you"
2 Tim. 1:12–14 ESV

Good Day, Ed!
Picture this: God’s up to something big in your life. Right now, you might not see it—maybe the fog’s too thick, or the road’s too winding—but He’s there, weaving a story with your name on it. He’s the master artist, brushing bold strokes of grace across the canvas of your days, turning messes into miracles, heartaches into hallelujahs.
Take Timothy, for instance. Paul’s young beloved son was in a tough spot—attacks coming from every side, discouragement settling in like a stubborn fog. So Paul, with a father’s heart, pens this letter to him—and to you, to me, to anyone who’s ever waited on God to flip the script. It’s for the dreamers who’ve dared to step toward a God-sized calling, the ones wading through valleys, scaling mountains, or staring down rivers too wide to cross without a miracle.
I love how Paul puts it: “I know whom I have believed.” That’s not a shaky maybe or a half-hearted hope—it’s a fist-pounding, soul-steadying certainty. God’s got this. He’s guarding what He’s given you—your purpose, your promise, that one-of-a-kind mission He whispered into your heart. No one else can carry it quite like you, my friend. He’s shaped your hands, your feet, your story for this very thing.
And He doesn’t leave you empty-handed. He’s handed you His Word—solid, sound, a lighthouse in the storm. He’s poured His love and faith into you through Jesus, a well that never runs dry. And then—oh, then—He’s given you the Holy Spirit, a divine companion dwelling right inside you, whispering courage, steadying your grip on the calling you’re meant to guard.
But here’s the extra scoop of hope I can’t help but share: Romans 8:28 promises that in all things—the good, the messy, the downright impossible—God’s working for your good. Not just some things. All things. That delay you’re facing? He’s turning it around. That dream that feels out of reach? He’s paving the way. He’s the God who takes what’s broken and builds something beautiful, who spins chaos into a chorus of praise.
So hold on, beloved. The rivers will part. The mountains will move. God’s not just able—He’s willing, and He’s already on the move. Your story’s not over yet. He’s turning it around, and when He does, you’ll see it was worth the wait.
Let Us Pray:
Father, You’re the God who sees me—the One who knows every twist in my road, every ache in my heart, every dream I’ve dared to dream. I come to You today, a little weary, a lot hopeful, trusting that You’re turning the tide in my life. Thank You for guarding what You’ve entrusted to me—my purpose, my story, this wild and precious calling that’s mine alone to carry.
Lord, I lean on Your Word, steady and true, to light my way. I rest in Your love, poured out through Jesus, that holds me tight when the winds howl. And I’m so grateful for Your Spirit, alive in me, whispering strength when I falter, nudging me forward when I’m unsure.
You promise to work all things for good, and I cling to that today. Take the broken pieces, the waiting, the wondering, and turn them into something beautiful. Shift the currents, move the mountains, part the rivers—I know You can, and I believe You will. Help me to stand firm, unashamed, because I know the One I’ve believed in.
Turn the tide, God. Write a story with my life that sings Your praise. I’m watching, I’m waiting, and I’m trusting You.

Ed Tandy McGlasson gives a great message on being a father in his book The Difference A Father Makes, which God placed in my hands a few years back. It challenged me to be the father that Jesus has called me to be.

Your coaching and ministry to my son and me has healed a 30-year wound. My dad never taught me how to be a father, and never blessed me in my life. My son and I, for the first time, have forgiven each other. It has been one of the most powerful things I have experienced in my life.
